DRAIN BLOCKAGE AT LORONG 24, BDC STAMPIN RESETTLEMENT SCHEME

Thursday, November 15, 2007

The stagnation of water at the road side drains at Lorong BDC Stampin Resettlement Scheme is caused by the filling up of the drains by the owners of Lot 5750, 5751, 5757, 5760, 5763, 5764, 5765, 5770, 5771, 5773, 5756 and 5755 as entrances access without the provision of proper culverts. To enable the water to flow directly to the stream nearby, the Council had on 12th October 2007 served letters to the owner of Lots 5758 and 5760 to construct proper culverts at their entrances failing which action will be taken against them in accordance with section 136(1)(d) of the Local Authorities Ordinance 1996. Such letter have been extended to YB Violet Yong for her information and being a responsible ADUN, she should have advised the culprits to construct the culverts to solve the problem that were created by the culprits themselves. I can’t see why she should come to the press pointing the finger against the Council for not solving the problem. The Council of course just cannot fork out money from the rates payer to remedy the illegal filling of drain. The proper procedure to deal with such matter has to go through administrative procedure against the culprit and if not solved, legal action would be followed through.

The Council regrets to note the comment of YB Violet Yong in the Sin Chew Daily on 3.11.2007 that the BN party Councillors have the tendency of laziness and show no concern for the people.

The Council wishes to inform that all the BN Councillors are in fact working industriously without publicising themselves to the public. Whatever issues that need the Councillors' input will be deliberated in the relevant council standing committee meeting and such minutes of meeting would then be presented for Full Council endorsement before it becomes a policy.

(The foregoing statement were issued in response to the adverse comments by ADUN Pending YB Violet Yong in the Sin Chew Daily on 3.11.2007.)
